Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.
