The Evolution of a Phenomenon can be characterized by specific steps.

1. The Big Idea

An inspiring figure or coaches present a new and transcendent idea pledging a solution for alienated and vulnerable people.

Thus we find ourselves. They’re getting ready to confront the system overseas. Pressure is mounting. Signs of trouble appear from the out-houses. A lone figure, exposed, shivering, the phrase ATTACKING MINDSET smeared across his chest as a statement, has come staggering through the lines and is being led away with discretion towards an inconclusive loan stint at Derbyshire.

2. The Honeymoon Phase

Movement founders guarantee a reboot, a brighter tomorrow, camaraderie, success together united in belief in the philosophy.

What did it represent at first? A team united basking in glory. Tattoos. Forearms. Determination. Elite male wellness energy. Admittedly, The team insist they don’t use the label, which is funny since it’s not recognized, what was that spectacle?

Yet it’s clear its essence. It’s Harry Brook playing a shot so outrageous it has to be pixelated. It’s the thrill of the captain at his peak, a demeanor suggesting: thoughtful warrior, beard made of wood, hair woven from beaver hide, so authentically Modern Savage you wouldn’t be surprised to look down and notice he’s fielding in the field bare-chested and cradling a wild salmon.

It’s the batsman continuing to have permission to talk in press conferences, appearing as a joyful figure in a waistcoat, saying stuff like we’re breaking down traditions. Certainly, the atmosphere, initially, was entirely positive.

3. A New Life

Building period. Cohesion maintained through repetition of mantras. These beliefs may seem irrational to prove commitment.

Is it just me? The backlash, the anger, the feeling of letdown post-defeat seems too strong, unwarranted. The performance was poor on the field, as is typical there. They were dominated defensively in a short span when tactics failed, outplayed by the batsman imitating their style effectively, adjusting to the pitch, an athlete shining with aura.

Currently, we see the criticism, the rage, the perception of the team as a disgrace. The feeling seems to be that losing isn’t enough, they need to lose righteously, to be scoured, flame-throwered, defeated through sheer skill of Mitchell Starc’s movements, the low-fi orthodoxies of the veteran, out there celebrating achievements with a bashful smile similar to getting a nice new fishing rod. How will they respond?

4. External Conflict

Issues emerge from failures in the plan. However, faults are ignored. It starts to feed on hostility externally.

On the other hand, we have the wider backdrop of the opponent’s mixed ingrained annoyance with the aggressive tourists, claiming, the methods you value and have honed to distinguish yourselves from others, it’s not serious in the end old boy.

This is the core issue. Everything is a cult. The approach was a phenomenon because cricket is a cult. Or rather, the sport in England is closed, a clique, a garden party, an insular community with two hundred years of opaque and ritualistic cult history behind it. Historically, this was a place where power and access are hoarded. It’s the British pastime of the nation, the pioneering brand.
