The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
